Home Automation System - OpenHAB 3 - 01. Initial setup [Versione in italiano]
by Marco Lamanna
After some time, I finally talk about my Home Automation System, taking advantage of the fact version 3 of my favorite Home Automation Hub is about to be released: OpenHAB
We're not on the public GA version yet, but Milestone versions and Snapshot Build are available for download at the moment (https://next.openhab.org/download/) which, according to the community of enthusiasts, are ready to be used in production environments (even if officially not supported), because they are considered stable. The release of the public version is however expected by the end of 2020.
I've been using OpenHAB version 2.x for long time and now it's time to migrate it to the new version 3. A direct upgrade from 2 to 3 would be possible, but I prefer to start from a clean installation and, for this reason, I bought the new Raspberry PI4, 4GB Ram version; my goal is to setup a new instance of OpenHAB v. 3 and slowly migrate the various configurations from v. 2. In this way, in addition to having a clean system, I will have the opportunity to learn more about the new version
So I will publish a series of videos to show the step by step migration of my current Home Automation System, version 2 based.
In this first video I talk about the step by step preparation of the Raspberry PI 4, from OS installation to the first setup of OpenHAB v. 3.
This video does not pretend to be a tutorial. The hope is that it will help someone.
